Course Summary: 
Do you know how to do your job in a way that minimizes liability for yourself and the agency? Join this class to discover practical tips for every level of the organization. This 6-hour virtual training, introduces essential components of tort liability and risk management to transportation workers. You will increase your knowledge of assessing and managing the risk of tort liability, considering negligence, documenting your work, and preparing for court if necessary.You will explore a variety of scenarios and case studies in this highly engaging and interactive class. Claims and lawsuit case studies include traffic control devices, work zones, roadside conditions, roadway design, and pedestrian incidents.
*Keeping Your Agency (And You!) Out of Court is a required course of the Road Scholar Program.

Intended Audience: 

This training is recommended for transportation agency personnel who need to manage risk and may be involved in legal proceedings. This can include:

  • State and local roadway engineers and technicians involved in design, construction, traffic operations, and maintenance

  • Roadway maintenance foremen and supervisors

(2) Pavement Marking Installation and Maintenance
Date: December 16–17
Time: 9:00am –12:00pm PT (both days)

Course Summary: This interactive 6-hour training explores the standard types and uses of pavement markings. It teaches marking installation preparation, marking application and inspection. This training also discusses the value of a pavement marking management system and explores new and upcoming innovations in materials and equipment.Participants will have opportunities to access pavement marking resources—such as the MUTCD and a variety of local, state, and FHWA documents—and learn to use those resources to answer questions and make decisions that mirror on-the-job tasks. Participants will gain valuable tips from across the country that local agencies may use for installing and inspecting pavement markings, dig into the Nevada specifications, plans, and field inspection guides.
*Pavement Marking Installation and Maintenance is a required course of the Road Scholar Program.Intended Audience: Anyone involved with marking pavements, public works personnel, or personnel with direct responsibility for planning, painting, installation, or implementation of pavement markings.
