Join us Thursday, June 5th @ 11:30am at Fogo De Chao for our speaker John Karachepone for his presentation “Is the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) still relevant today?”

The Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) has been a cornerstone of transportation engineering for generations. This presentation examines the lessons learned and the possible future of the HCM. We’ll explore the evolution of the HCM to its current 7th Edition. We’ll review some of the possible applications of the HCM, such as accounting for connected and automated vehicles. Lessons learned, potential future changes, and areas for improvement will be discussed. Has the concept of level of service outlived its usefulness? Is the peak hour factor relevant anymore? Will the future HCM evolve to align better with safety, moving beyond software dependence to foster a more analytical, problem-solving approach? Come join a lively discussion to provide your thoughts and feedback on these aspects.
